Benjamin Clowes Fabrications manufactures a range of exhaust systems from a variety of materials using thin wall gauges to as little as 0.5mm. Materials such as:
High chromium steel alloys are generally used in motorsport applications seeing lower exhaust gas temperatures. Popular because of its non-corrosive and heat resistant properties, it is an affordable solution for custom built exhausts.
Commonly used Stainless Steel grades for exhausts are:
Nickel alloys, are the most common materials for exhausts in advanced motorsports such as Formula 1, World Rally cars, World Endurance cars, Touring cars etc. Due to its high nickel content, Inconel retains its strength at extremely high temperatures, which allows us to produce exhausts using a thinner wall gauge. This results in an overall, lighter and more durable exhaust package over a system that would be made from Stainless Steel.
Commonly used Inconel grades for exhausts are:
Titanium alloys are used for some Motorsport applications such as MotoGP, British Superbike and Formula 1. They are also popular with motorbike enthusiasts wanting lightweight exhausts. Titanium is not as strong or as heat resistant as Inconel and Stainless Steel, however it is nearly 50% lighter of the densile weight. And it’s this reason Titanium is used where less weight, may gain the advantage of a competitor.
Commonly used grades for Titanium exhausts are:
- Grade 2
- Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V)
- KS Ti-1.2 ASNE
